Special Meeting to discuss a STEM opportunity
Luis Leon received information about an opportunity for PSEC and asked that the Council discuss it.
The opportunity is the “Tacoma Police Department’s 4th Annual Kids Health & Safety Fair “
This will take place at the Tacoma Dome on 29 August 2026 from 10 am to 1 pm.
This year they are “are expanding our vision to inspire children to explore future career opportunities and better understand pathways to success. We are also working to include interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) demonstrations and hands-on exhibits to show youth what is possible for their future, we’re very excited about this!”
Andrew explained that the event, organized by the Tacoma Police Department, aims to expand into a STEM and back-to-school focused event where PSEC would be invited to set up 2-3 interactive engineering booths similar to their engineering fair format.
Dave agreed to handle the follow-up and forwarding of information to the PSEC community.
The group agreed this sounded like an excellent opportunity.

Mentor nights
Hi All,
Hope all is going well. We’re partnering once again with Edmonds College to provide them with 2-3 professionals that can share their career and inspire young minds. This quarter’s information is below, if you have any questions please let me know.
The panel will be held on Tuesday, Oct 21, from 9:30 – 10:20 am. The panel will be held on Zoom and will be recorded for students who cannot attend. The recording will not be hosted publicly. Panelists may attend via Zoom if that is more convenient for them. We recently polled our engineering students to see what engineering majors they are interested in learning about. The majority of our students are interested in mechanical and aerospace engineering, but there is significant interest in computer science, civil engineering, and electrical engineering. Sign up link: https://forms.gle/gU2zpfnN33LCcKqx7 Thanks in advance!

Following up, I have attached our flyer for the upcoming Engineering Resume Review Night. I also wanted to share the LINK TO REGISTER – since sometimes scanning a QR code can be tricky. Below, is a brief overview of the program structure and overview as well:
This fall, Seattle University is hosting our annual Engineering Resume Review Night on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
This event is an opportunity for SU alumni and engineering professionals to give back to the Redhawk community while helping students prepare for internships and full-time opportunities during a particularly competitive hiring season.
The evening will begin with a short professionals-only session where our team will walk through the program structure, provide tips for supporting students in this setting, and offer light snacks. From there, we’ll transition into speed-round resume reviews. Each professional will be paired with small groups of 1–5 students from their discipline to review resumes, answer questions, and offer advice. After each round, you’ll rotate to a new group of students.
