  • SWE-PNW - IEEE: Lubricating the International Space Station

    Description:

    In 2007, the International Space Station (ISS) experienced a failure in the Starboard Solar Alpha Rotary Joint (SARJ), the rotating bearing that supports the solar panels on the end of the truss element.  The bearing surfaces had been worn.  Repairs include cleaning of the surfaces, roller replacement and application of grease.  All work was completed on the outside of the ISS during the space shuttle mission STS-126 in November of 2008.
