The following message is from Lori Ross <lross@positiveplace.org> at the North Seattle Boys & Girls Club:
My name is Lori Ross and I am a member of the STEM committee and a proud Staff from the North Seattle Boys and Girls Club located in Greenwood, Washington. Two years ago we set out with an ambitious vision to have STEM focused after school programming. Last year we “launched” a partnership with The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and have seen tremendous growth and success in making STEM at NSBGC a reality. In the summer of 2014 we held a successful 7 week long STEM program serving 30-40 youth per week, weaving the the Engineer Design Process throughout all of our activities and builds. Our vision is stronger than ever and we are looking to expand partnerships and collaborate with the Puget Sound Engineering Council to help bring professional volunteers and mentors to help grow the young minds of the our club members and make our vision come to fruition. We are looking for PSEC members that are interested in outreach in the following areas:
- Assisting in STEM-related Activities
- Helping to Plan and Facilitate STEM Activities
- Mentoring Youth
- STEM Career Day Volunteers
- Bringing Excitement to Engineering!
Our mission at the North Seattle Boys and Girls Club is simple:
“To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.” We hope PSEC will join us in our mission to create a brighter future for these youth and for our community. If you have any questions please feel free to email me or call me any time. Thank you for your time. Looking forward to hearing from you very soon.
